Lupita Cano, a visual artist and native Seattle resident with Down
syndrome, discovered her passion for painting as a young child. Freedom,
pride, and a sense of limitless possibility are the rewards this creative
process has given Ms. Cano as she attempts to capture the magic and
mystery of the world through her art.
Ms. Cano is a prolific and talented abstract artist with a flamboyant
and charismatic personality. She has caused quite a stir with her
inspired designs and thoughts about art and its importance in our
lives. Ms. Cano is an active artist at the Seattle Center Artists
Studio. The Seattle Center Artists Studio is a program of the Artists
Unlimited Network at Very Special Arts of Washington. Ms. Cano also
creates art out of a studio at her home.
Ms. Cano started her own small business, A.E. Designs by Lupita, in
September of 2001. Since that time, Ms. Cano has sold her art cards,
prints, and original art work in a number of venues. She has hosted
art parties for friends and family, set up a booth at the Fremont
Sunday Market, participated in the Ballard Art Walk, showed her art
at the past two CARA shows in Seattle, and been featured at local,
state, and national conferences for people with Down syndrome and
developmental disabilities. Ms. Canos art cards are currently
available at selected retail stores in the Seattle area, and her mail
order business has generated sales across the United States and from
as far away as Japan, Australia and South America.
